AUTO SYNC
Keep the music you care about on your device, automatically. Auto Sync downloads or caches your starred songs, albums or artists, your newest albums, or any of your playlists - and keeps up as they change.
Give each one a mode: Download keeps the music on your device until you remove it; Cache fetches it too, but lets it make room for other music.
Auto Sync is off until you turn it on. Find it on the play:Sub tab, where Sync Now starts a run straight away.

iPHONE DUO
Folded, unfolded or side by side in two-up multitasking, play:Sub is up for it.

WHAT'S NEW
The play:Sub tab now tells you what is new since the version you last used, with a badge until you have had a look.

AND THE REST
● New: The Audio Visualizer can have a tab of its own. Add it in the Tab Bar settings.
● Fixed: Background downloads are more reliable.
● Various other bugfixes and improvements.

RECORD LABELS, TITLE QUALIFIERS, CARPLAY IMPROVEMENTS

RECORD LABELS
Browse your collection by record label. Every label gets its own page with its albums, artists and songs - all of them, shuffled, or the starred ones - and an album's About page now says who released it.
Star the labels you follow and find them under Favourites, in search, and in CarPlay.
Record labels come from servers that publish them, such as Navidrome.
The URL scheme plays a label too: playsubapp://play?recordlabel=Blue Note (wildcards like Blue* work).

TITLE QUALIFIERS
"Rubber Soul (Remastered)" can be shown as "Rubber Soul", or with "(Remastered)" in smaller, dimmed text - your choice, in Settings > User Interface Tweaks > Title Qualifiers.

CARPLAY
● New: On iOS 27, album, artist, playlist, folder, genre, decade and record label pages open with a header showing the cover, title and details, with Play, Shuffle and Enqueue right there. Earlier iOS versions keep the quick action row.
● New: An artist button on the Now Playing screen takes you straight to the artist/album.
● Fixed: Icons in dark mode were black on very dark grey.

AND THE REST
● New: Automatic theme changes now follow the system appearance.
● Fixed: Handing playback off to Chromecast lost the playback position.
● Fixed: WMA files would not play on Chromecast.
● Fixed: Swiping back through the navigation stack works again.
● Various other bugfixes and improvements.

AUTO DJ, AUDIO VISUALIZER, DOWNLOADS VS CACHE

AUTO DJ
Never let the music stop: when the play queue runs out, play:Sub keeps it going.
Pick a mode - favourite artists, random albums, cached songs, newest additions, artist radio, decade radio and many more - or let Auto DJ draw a fresh strategy for every round.
Choose it in Settings, or straight from the play queue menu. "Up Next" on the player screen tells you what is coming.

AUDIO VISUALIZER
A spectrum analyzer has moved into the player. Swipe past the last player page to find it, with a frequency axis in octaves, peak markers.
Not your thing? Turn it off in Settings > User Interface Tweaks > Audio Visualizer.

DOWNLOADS AND CACHE ARE NOW TWO DIFFERENT THINGS
Downloads are yours to keep: "Keep Offline" downloads stay put until you remove them, and are never removed to make room for something else. The automatic cache still fills and trims itself in the background.
● New: Choose Download or Cache directly from the context menu.
● New: Reorganised "Storage and Caching" settings, with separate Clear Cache, Remove Downloads and Clear All actions.
● New: "Preload Upcoming Tracks" is now configurable, from 1 to 30 tracks.

AND THE REST
● New: play:Sub now requires iOS 16.
● New: Context menu for Decades.
● New: The user interface follows along with the freely resizable windows of the newest iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
● Fixed: Random songs and browse lists now respect the active media filter.
● Fixed: Browse lists could get stuck showing nothing after changing the media filter.
● Fixed: The radio station directory is back, and station metadata is parsed correctly again.
● Various other bugfixes and improvements.
