Ver 1.5 2026-11-06
COMPA 1.5 brings your instruments, captured ideas and song clips closer together.
• RD808: meet Rhythm Dog, the included drum synth and AUv3 with Boogie's pixel portrait. Play seventeen parts, go chromatic, browse rhythms across 63 genres, FETCH a new groove, paint repeats and send a pattern straight to Launch or Arrange. Hold a pad or key in ERASE mode to remove only the hits you choose, undo a pass, and adjust COMPA’s tempo directly from the instrument header. An optional mixer pane sits beside the sequencer in a wide window.
• A stronger MIDI editing workflow across patterns, CHOMP sequences, Launch and Arrange: expanded editors, named/color-coded drum rows, per-part piano rolls, expression, Chance/Ratchet and draggable loop start/end handles.
• Capture, edit and finish: refine performances and automation against the music, reassign captured SP effects, export MIDI or print audio. Launch adds fixed-length recording with explicit Overdub and Replace.
• CHOMP starts clean in a new Blank Slate, or with the default kit you choose. Quota Kits is available inside CHOMP for building, importing, converting and exporting kits.
• The DJFX Looper COMPA edition is included as an AUv3 effect. Stem Decks and DJ tools gain clearer BPM/sync, platter artwork and shared surface choices. Visual Pads gain richer editing, automation and crossfades.
• Apple Watch companion: separate MIDI/audio Capture, transport, Crown/tap/held tempo, Arrange arm/position, complications and haptic confirmation. Haptic Beat works while the Watch app is active with its paired iPhone.
• More usable phone and iPhone Duo layouts, Narrow/Wide mixer strips, instrument/hardware identities, held-peak reset, freely movable insert editors and clearer audio paths.
• New Hunny, Boogie, Bella, ChaCha and brindle coats, plus specific Explain Controls help with exact highlighted passages in the complete updated manual.
Includes fixes to MIDI routing, Capture, recording/playback, AUv3 inserts/sends and saved mixer state.

Ver 1.4.3 2026-10-07
This update improves RD303 playability and fixes recording and playback workflows in Arrange:
• RD303 responds more smoothly to MIDI keyboards and mapped knobs, with more responsive scopes when hardware is connected.
• New LEGATO / RETRIGGER switch above RD303’s keyboard. Choose fresh attacks on every key or overlapping-note slides. Your choice is saved with the instrument and can be MIDI-mapped.
• After recording in Arrange, Stop returns to the beginning of the new take so you can audition it immediately.
• The bottom Play button plays the arrangement when Arrange is open, including when the app opens directly to that view.
• Record during loop playback and finish at the correct loop boundary.
• See live waveforms on every track when recording multiple inputs.
• Keep guide tracks intact while recording another part, with Undo for audio recording passes.
• Keep the song-position display aligned with loop playback.
Thanks for the reports and retests. For help, contact [email protected] or post in the COMPA Discord.

Ver 1.4 2026-10-05
COMPA 1.4 is a major sampling and performance update, free for existing owners. Capture new sounds, turn spoken words into playable phrases, scratch your tracks, and meet RD303: a bonus bassline synth included at no extra cost.
SAMPLE OTHER APPS AND THE WEB
On iOS/iPadOS 27, capture audio from supported apps or a web player into CHOMP, Clips, Arrange, Takes or Quota DS. Hold a pad for a quick sample, or use tap-to-start/tap-to-stop while you switch to the source. Audition a new pad, then resume sampling without reconnecting. Share links from other apps into COMPA's web-source queue. Optional video capture keeps the picture with your sample.
QUOTA DS, BUILT IN
Transcribe audio, search the words, highlight a phrase and send it to a CHOMP pad. Audition selections, refine their start/end points and fades, or use Q-Chop for sentence and segment cuts. Transcripts are saved with their sources. The movable, resizable workspace includes reading layouts and independent light/dark transcript backgrounds. Use Apple speech recognition or download a local Whisper model; keep working with an Apple draft while Whisper finishes.
DJ DECKS AND PAD SCRATCH
Perform with Deck A and Deck B using Files, song clips or CHOMP samples. Scratch the platters, set eight hot cues, find BPM and cue suggestions, loop, adjust pitch and channel levels, and shape the mix with EQ, filters and crossfader curves. Pad Scratch gives a selected sample its own turntable with Cut, Brake, Echo Out and EQ. Record the result to a new pad. Performance controls support MIDI mapping.
A BONUS: RAW DOG 303!
Meet RD303, Raw Dog 303 - a bassline synthesizer included with COMPA! It comes with a 128-step sequencer, pattern library, pattern generation, modulation, stereo effects, and note/knob automation recording. Play it natively inside COMPA or load the included RD303 AUv3 in another compatible music app. No in-app purchase, subscription or separate unlock.
MORE WAYS TO BUILD A SONG
Perform linked video samples and export MP4 with audio. Develop parts step by step with Guided FETCH. Use scale-aware MIDI clip editing, route CHOMP Live FX to its master or a bus, and connect these workflows with Quota Stems and Quota Kits.
YOUR MIDI RIG, RECALLED
Compatible MIDI devices no longer need a built-in profile for ports, channels or sync. Create custom cards, assign audio-interface returns, and save routes, controller mappings and bank settings with your Session. Route MIDI from instrument AUv3s that produce it. Notes, Clock and Start/Stop have separate controls, and the MIDI Matrix is directly accessible again.
IMPORTANT FIXES AND POLISH
• Fixed an AUv3 host issue that could stop sequencer audio when opening CHOMP or changing the audio setup, requiring a restart.
• Fresh CHOMP recordings keep their captured pitch and speed. Resampling preserves tuning across repeated takes and honors Auto Trim without rewriting the source. Auto Match is for imports; Restore Original can recover previously matched takes.
• Safer pad clearing, a clearer trash target and expanded pad-edit Undo; improved landscape touch handling and message dismissal.
• Keyboard highlights clear after release.
• Arrange audio-file imports land in Arrange. Move/copy clips and regions, drag in files, and read names in separate headers.
• Improved selected iCloud-file downloads, import progress/errors, file-versus-folder guidance, normalization, export saving, recording placement, scene following, Session recall and compact layouts.
Other-app capture requires iOS/iPadOS 27. Capture availability depends on the source and system permissions. Optional models and imported media require device storage. Thank you for using COMPA and helping shape what comes next! We look forward to bringing you more big updates. Questions or issues? Ver 1.3 2026-09-24
COMPA 1.3 makes it easier to capture, chop, route, and build a song.
MIDI CAPTURE AND AUDIO RECALL
Play a connected groovebox or MIDI controller, then tap CAPTURE MIDI to replay the MIDI it sent through the instrument. Hold CAPTURE MIDI for latest phrase or whole-window capture, autoplay, looping, optional detected Session BPM, and Clips or Arrange placement. COMPA's existing audio Recall has a new trim: it cuts dead air before and after your playing, so the rescued take is already clipped and ready to use. Hold RCL to choose a 30-second to 5-minute look-back (1 minute by default) and trim settings. Keep the original, or send a copy to Takes, Clips, Arrange, or an empty CHOMP pad. +REC catches the past and keeps recording forward.
CHOMP AND QUOTA STEMS
Separate drums, bass, other, and vocals on device, aligned on one pad. Focus or mute a layer, adjust its level, and link trim, fades, and pitch. Match a sample or all four stems to the Session with pitch-preserving Complex. Full-song separation and matching run offline, not instantly.
CHOMP's main waveform and editors now pinch-zoom around your fingers, pan, and show a moving playhead. In CHOP, find song-section cues, audition and move them, focus a section, then make equal, transient, or lazy cuts. Send cuts to pads with one choke choice; four-stem cuts stay aligned. CHOMP Pattern reaches all 16 pads in each A-H bank. Record a pad from a chosen source, including the built-in mic. Send CHOMP audio to Clips, Arrange, or both, and resample its played output.
SAMPLE TEMPO AND KEY
See a pad's source BPM, estimated or tagged key, and playback pitch without digging through its editor. Analyze or correct source information, set the Session tempo, or match the sample to it. Optional Auto Match can align new samples to Session tempo; an ambiguous estimated key does not automatically change pitch until you confirm it. Estimates can be wrong, and manual correction and Undo remain available.
CLIPS, ARRANGE, PATTERN, AND FETCH
Play Keys inside Clips and Arrange. Hold to copy, paste, or duplicate clips and regions; duplicates find free space on the same track, and occupied paste targets ask before replacement. Adjust audio fades from waveform handles. Audio tracks can reopen their hosted AUv3 source instrument. Add Audio to Song from CHOMP, hosted instruments, or Link Audio. Pattern keeps favorites, filters, and Set BPM; iPhone shows steps 1-8 above 9-16. FETCH Listen adds editable Call/Answer phrases and Build Around Phrase.
ROUTE, SYNC, AND CONTROLLERS
Route now starts with clearly labeled Input, COMPA, and Output controls. Choose the connected device, then its available stereo pair or individual mono channel. Optional input monitoring stays off unless requested, with protection for groovebox USB returns and an explicit safety choice for conventional same-device interfaces. Compatible class-compliant USB audio interfaces no longer need a dedicated card profile. Bluetooth listening is available through the system output picker; wired or USB remains best for tight live timing.
MIDI Matrix shows live controllers. Claim one for the focused device, choose an outgoing MIDI channel, and manage Clock and Start/Stop separately for connected devices. Identical supported devices can keep separate cards and MIDI routes. Link Audio sharing between COMPA devices has a tighter, more stable receive buffer.
EVERYDAY POLISH
Workspace Density offers Learn for extra guidance, Clean for less on-screen explanation, and Symbols for the leanest icon-first view. The CHOMP editor uses full-word tabs, optional pad names, and clearer stem controls. Mix has compact record, solo, and mute symbols; Clips MAIN shares its tracks' meter/fader design. Fixes include stem loop/focus playback, transient coverage, resample pitch, AUv3 reopening, and route/transport regressions.
COMPA only captures MIDI a device sends. Hardware and AUv3 support vary; built-in tools need no gear or account.

Ver 1.2 2026-09-11
COMPA 1.2 expands the hardware-specific controls introduced in 1.1 and tightens the SP-404MKII and EP-series workflows.
SP-404MKII
Redesigned FX workspaces keep the scope and up to six controls visible. Choose knobs, vertical faders, or horizontal sliders per control or globally. Switch parameters can work as toggle or momentary controls, and untouched values are clearly shown as unknown instead of implying a false midpoint.
DJ mode can show Bus 1 and Bus 2 together with longer deck faders, an improved crossfader, and clearer routing/setup guidance. The Looper has explicit Start Recording and Finish Recording actions, a larger rate fader, and a practical setup/playback guide. The native Pattern view is simplified around the SP's banks and pads.
EP-40 RIDDIM AND EP-133 K.O. II
The shared player drawer now uses COMPA's standard pitch-pad grid while the dedicated hardware workspace keeps the device's native pad layout. EP-40 LFO and XY gestures use the named device route, with clearer FX setup guidance and a single properly fitted XY surface. Pattern labels, Pad Map access, and user-preset saving are more reliable and readable.
This update also includes additional layout, responsiveness, and control-state fixes across these workspaces.
