Ver 3.9 2026-09-03
Protego 3.9 filters the one place it never reached: Reddit's search results.
Until now a keyword, community or user filter that hid a post everywhere else left the same post in plain sight the moment you searched for it. Search results are filtered like any other feed now, on new and old Reddit, with matches hidden and counted in your stats. Reddit's "get the app" panel could also freeze a page outright, with no close button and no way to scroll, and Protego lifts that freeze even on a panel it has never seen. VoiceOver reads Protego's confirmation messages aloud, and adding a domain points you at the ready-made filter that covers the whole site.
No account, no tracking, and your lists stay in your own iCloud.
WHAT'S NEW:
- Filtering on search results: your keyword, community and user filters now apply to Reddit's search pages, with matches hidden, counted in your stats, and announced by the same toast. Reveal Mode and Preview cover the surface too, so you can see what a filter would hide before you commit to it. A new-Reddit result carries no outbound link and no post body, so domain filters cannot apply there and keywords match the title and community name; old Reddit's results carry all four filter types.
- A pointer to the filter that covers a whole site: several sites post links under more than one address, so a youtube.com filter on its own quietly misses everything arriving through youtu.be. Type a domain like that and Protego names the ready-made filter that covers both, in the add sheet and when you edit an entry. Your domain still saves normally.
IMPROVEMENTS:
- The "Open in App" nudges setting now also hides the app button inside Reddit's mature-content warning, where it sits above the two real choices. The warning itself still appears and still has to be answered.
- Protego recognizes three more shapes of Reddit's app prompts, drawn from the public lists that ad-blockers maintain, so one we have not met in the wild is covered if it turns up.
FIXES:
- Reddit's "get the app" panel could cover a page with no close button and stop it scrolling, leaving force-quitting Safari as the only way out: Protego now recognizes the whole family of those panels, rather than the exact ones it had seen before.
- Protego's confirmation messages were never read aloud by VoiceOver, so erasing your lists, importing one, or renaming a group gave no sign that anything had happened: every screen announces them now, confirmations and errors alike.

Ver 3.8 2026-08-11
Protego 3.8 shows its work: what it is filtering right now, and what a keyword would catch before you save it.
Filtering is invisible by design, which makes it hard to trust. Reveal Mode stops hiding and outlines every post Protego would have hidden, naming the filter that matched; Preview does the same for a keyword you are still typing, before you commit to it. Old Reddit gains something it has never had: a proper dark theme, checked for contrast across feeds, comments and communities. Comment pages can open with every reply chain folded away, and a new reset puts Protego back to how it started.
No account, no tracking, and your lists stay in your own iCloud.
WHAT'S NEW:
- Reveal Mode: a button in the Safari extension popup shows what Protego is filtering instead of hiding it. Every post a filter would hide stays visible, outlined in red and tagged with the filter that matched. Nothing is saved and your stats are untouched.
- Preview a keyword: try one on the page behind the popup before you save it. Every post it would hide is outlined with the matched word highlighted, so a wildcard's real reach is visible. Add it from there, or walk away and nothing is saved.
- Dark theme for old Reddit: old Reddit has never had a dark mode of its own, and now it does, across feeds, comment pages, communities, the sidebar and search. Every color was checked for contrast, so text stays readable rather than merely dark.
- Collapse reply threads: open a post's comments as a list of top-level comments with every reply chain folded away, then open only the chains you want to read. A link that points at one comment still opens on it, with nothing folded over.
- Ignore community styles: render every community in old Reddit's default styling instead of the custom look its moderators set up, which often makes it harder to read on a phone.
- Reset Protego: a new row at the bottom of Settings puts everything back to how it started. Reset your settings on their own, or reset them and erase every filter list at once. Your stats are never touched.
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Old Reddit's settings now sit on a screen of their own, at the end of the Transform tab, instead of mixed in with settings that shape both designs. Every setting keeps its name, behavior, and value.
- Quick Help in the popup now opens the app on Get Help, rather than describing the route for you to follow. Get Help attaches your app version and device details, so what you send arrives ready to diagnose.
- The two stats cards at the top of the popup now open the app on your Stats.
- Erasing a filter list now removes that list's groups along with it, so an emptied list no longer leaves empty groups behind.
FIXES:
- A domain saved with a capital letter in it filtered nothing at all, while looking exactly like a working entry in your list: domains now ignore capitalization, and ones saved that way in the past start working without you re-adding them.
- Protego's floating buttons sat over Reddit's comment box while you were writing: they now fade out while it is open and fade back when you close it.
- The Protego button on a post or comment covered Reddit's "Join the conversation" bar: it now slides behind the bar as you scroll, the way Reddit's own buttons do.
- Opening a settings search result in another tab could leave a blank page in that tab's history, so Back showed an empty screen: nothing is left behind now.
- On old Reddit, a comment Protego collapsed kept the expanded marker on its toggle, so a folded comment looked open: the marker matches now.

Ver 3.5.3 2026-07-29
Protego 3.5.3 colors your comment threads and adds a batch of smaller comforts across the app.
Long conversations are hard to follow when every reply line looks the same. Thread Colors gives each reply depth its own color, on new and old Reddit alike, with four themes to choose from. Old Reddit fans can have image posts expand on their own while they scroll, and short keywords like AI can finally be filters.
No account, no tracking, and your lists stay in your own iCloud.
WHAT'S NEW:
- Thread Colors: give each comment reply depth its own color, so you always know which reply belongs where. Four themes: Default, Rainbow, wobniaR, and Vibecoded, each previewed with its palette before you choose. Works on new and old Reddit; find it in Transform, under Comment Threads.
- Auto-expand images: old Reddit image and gallery posts open inline as you scroll, exactly as if you had tapped each expand button. A post you collapse stays collapsed. Find it in Transform, under Feed and Layout.
- Two-letter keywords: AI, VR, and other short terms can now be filters. A short keyword with a wildcard, like ai*, also matches longer words, so Protego states the trade-off and asks before adding it.
- Crosspost button: a new switch hides Reddit's crosspost control on posts, on both Reddit designs.
- Achievement updates: a new switch stops the achievement pill that slides in after you share or comment. Unlike Reddit's own setting, it applies across your devices and survives clearing website data.
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Keyword groups can be selected right in the list's Select mode: bulk-delete a mixed selection and choose whether the group's keywords go with it, or ungroup with a swipe.
- Updating Protego no longer moves you off your chosen preset when an update adds new settings to it.
FIXES:
- Hiding post thumbnails also hid a card-view post's own photo or video on new Reddit: your media stays visible now, and only the link thumbnail goes.

Ver 3.3 2026-07-25
Protego 3.3 opens your feeds in the order you prefer and takes the pain out of posting for old Reddit fans.
Reddit resets every feed to its Best sort. The new Post sort order setting opens feeds with the sort you choose instead. And if you browse old Reddit through Protego's redirect, creating a post now opens new Reddit's full composer, with photos, galleries, and polls, then returns you to old Reddit when you're done.
Also inside: cleaner community pages and a round of fixes, all in English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese.
WHAT'S NEW:
- Post sort order: open community, home, popular, and news feeds with Hot, New, Top, Rising, or Controversial instead of Reddit's Best, with a time window for Top and Controversial. It's a default, not a lock: any sort you pick on Reddit itself always wins. Find it in Transform, under Feed and Layout.
- Create posts on new Reddit: with Redirect to old.reddit.com on, creating a post opens new Reddit's composer, which supports photos, videos, galleries, polls, and drafts. Old Reddit's submit links land there automatically, and you return to old Reddit after posting. On by default; turn it off to keep old Reddit's plain form.
IMPROVEMENTS:
- The Achievement badges switch now also hides the Community Achievements section in a community's sidebar.
- Hiding post thumbnails or community and author avatars now also covers the pinned Community highlights cards at the top of a community page.
FIXES:
- Hiding a post's vote count, vote buttons, or award button no longer stops working when the Protego button on posts is turned off.
- The app's confirmation messages and welcome tour now respect the Reduce Motion setting.

Ver 3.0 2026-07-23
Protego 3.0 is the biggest update yet.
Keywords were only the beginning: Protego now filters whole communities and individual users too, and a Protego button on Reddit itself lets you filter a community without leaving the page. One-tap Transform presets clear away the clutter, and the new Limits can put Reddit's feeds out of reach entirely. Nearly everything you can see is new, the app now speaks Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, and it is much more reliable underneath.
No account, no tracking, and your lists stay in your own iCloud.
WHAT'S NEW:
- Communities and users: Hide everything from a community, one person's posts and comments, or block access to a community.
- Keyword groups: Gather keywords under one name for easier management and switch them all off at once.
- Transform presets: Off, Minimal, Balanced, and Focused apply a recommended set of options in one tap, stripping out distractions and bringing new Reddit closer to the old one.
- Limits: Filtering hides what you don't want to see; Limits puts Reddit itself out of reach, from the main feeds up to the whole site. Pair one with a Focus like Sleep or Study and it applies itself.
- In-page controls: A Protego control on posts, comments, community sidebars, and profiles filters that community or author without opening the app. Turn it off on any of those surfaces.
- Hide more clutter: New options hide thumbnails, avatars, flair, badges, vote controls, award and join buttons, community banners, Reddit Answers, recommendations, and login and app nudges.
- Quieter comment threads: Comments carrying media, and the moderator comment pinned to the top, can arrive collapsed or hidden.
- Skip the For You feed: An experimental option that switches you from Reddit's For You home test back to Following. Off by default.
- Keyword suggestions: Pull terms trending in your region, or add a ready-made Men or Women group for dating posts.
- A new pattern: # matches any 1 to 3 digit number, so [#m] hides [30m] and [18m].
- Switch any filter off without deleting it.
- Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, across the app, the popup, and the menus on Reddit.
- A tip jar: I build Protego in my free time, and if it has made your Reddit calmer, a tip toward the next coffee means a lot.
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Reliable syncing: Your changes reach your other devices on their own, even with the app closed.
- Faster filtering: The filtering engine was rebuilt and optimized to clear pages sooner.
- Wider coverage: Filtering now reaches the news feed, Rising and Best listings, highlight carousels, single comment pages, and crossposts.
- Accurate stats: A rebuilt counting engine that adds up across your devices, on a redesigned Stats screen.
- Redesigned app: Reorganized navigation, a restyled interface with Liquid Glass, and a new icon on every platform.
- Rebuilt Safari popup: Redesigned to match the app, and streamlined for quickly adding a keyword.
- Built for VoiceOver: Controls are announced properly, and contrast was raised throughout.
FIXES:
- Deleting a keyword left its posts hidden: they come back now.
- A filter you deleted could reappear from another device: deletions stick now.
- Importing a list always claimed success, even when nothing was added: it reports the real count now.
- And hundreds of smaller fixes across the app, the extension, and the Safari popup.

Ver 2.22 2026-01-31
Keyword filtering now works on carousel posts at the top of the home and popular feeds. Also includes stability fixes for iOS cold-start and Safari background suspension.
